A Message from Jennifer and Jason

I just received a wonderful message from our friends Jennifer and Jason that are doing everything they can to bring their daughter home from Guatemala. The email contained some wonderful news that I was unaware of and I am very excited about. (Hopefully Jennifer and Jason don't mind me posting their email.)

From Jennifer and Jason:

Dear Friends and Family (wonderful helpers!),

Thank you to everyone who has been calling organizations and officials from the "Call to Action" sheet. This work has already paid off on Day 1. UNICEF ("the driving force that helps with children's rights")has issued a "clarification" regarding the Hague Treaty compliance information that countries are to "consider the needs of the child" which seems to be interpreted as a way for Guatemala to save itself from the mess is was starting to create. Additionally, legislation has passed the Children's Committee in the Guatemalan Congress which attaches an amendment to the Ortega Law that will permit the grandfathering in on in-progress adoption cases and allow them to complete the current notary-based process.

This was and is our goal!!! Yeah!!! I do believe Karla will be part of our family eventually.

While this is good news, it is NOT a done deal. If you were planning on making calls Tuesday or Wednesday, please do so! The only thing the organizers of the "Call to Action" are asking now is that you remove UNICEF and UNICEF Guatemala from the list of people/organizations you are calling since they have taken the steps asked for.

Keep calling/emailing/faxing because it has already helped significantly!

I don't think we'll know anything for certain until after the November meeting of Congress. But things are definitely looking up. (Hopefully my stomach will survive until November :) - It has been in knots).

Whoever organized this "call to action" didn't take into consideration that today was Columbus Day. I know a lot of offices were closed today.

Thank you!!!

Love, Jennifer and Jason
