New Space

We are now the proud owners of a whole new space! Although I don't think I will ever be able to say that our game room will ever be completely finished (there are always improvements to be made) the room is at least livable again. As you may recall, several months ago our basement got flooded. We had thought we were done with this issue after we had invested in some new drainage and a sump pump. However, with several microbursts in our area, there were lots of trees down and our power was out for 52 hours. No power meant no sump pump. Greg has been hard at work in our basement ever since. The old moldy and smelly carpet was removed and sent away on the garbage truck. Then he installed a backup pump that runs on battery power. Then it was time for the new floor - a vinyl floor that looks just like laminate. On to new baseboards, ones without mold growing behind them. A little painting somewhere in there as well. A friend of ours told us that her mother was looking to get rid of a HUGE and fantastically wonderful rug so we got that for free. Finally this weekend we moved the furniture that had been living in the garage back into the game room! (We are waiting on moving in the coffee table since we need room for a bed in this room while the grandmas are staying here during our trip to Guatemala.) Things still aren't perfect yet. For one thing, stuff is piled high on our bar. My nearly new treadmill apparently was not fond of being submerged in water and no longer works. (I'll pretend I am upset I can't exercise.) Although we don't think the room can really be baby proofed without major renovations, we have decided that it can be a place for supervised play and Marcus even got to enjoy the room.

No, it wasn't snack time. No, I didn't even strap my kid in there so he wouldn't wreak havoc. Marcus is obsessed with this little seat. This one is William's. Marcus has his own that we take everywhere. Anyway, as soon as Marcus spotted it, he climbed in and put the tray on.

The pooch is excited to have the room back too since she is allowed on the couches there.

Another view of the room.

The flooring.

Somewhere in between fixing up the game room, Greg also was nice enough to work on MY space, the marvelously fabulous laundry room. If my sewing area looks like a mess, that is because it is. Next to my sewing table is where we can stack laundry baskets. There is also a green folding chair tucked in there by the ironing board that I can just unfold and use at my sewing area. The purple paint is new as well, leftover paint that we used to paint the bathroom that connects to the laundry room.
