Birthday Season
This household needed a party. Thankfully for us, we had one planned for this past Sunday. It is birthday season in our family! Between Greg, me, our parents, siblings, and children, we have six birthdays to celebrate between December 15 and January 6. In interest of avoiding lumping them all together, we held Will's birthday party yesterday. His actual second birthday isn't until this coming Friday.
It was just a little party at our house. We didn't have a real theme other than printing Backyardigans invitations off the internet for family members and getting a Backyardigans cake.
I made some of Will's favorite foods (mac 'n cheese, chicken noodle soup, corn on the cob, and Goldfish crackers - although technically I didn't make the crackers and just opened a bag) as well as one of my favorites (Italian beef sandwiches). There was cake and ice cream and presents. It didn't occur to me until the day before his party that there were suddenly going to be more toys in my house so Greg and I did a quick clearing out of the old toys to make room for the new ones.
Of all the presents, the kids seemed to be craziest about a couple of balloons. I always find it interesting how the simplest gift can be so fun.
Will and Marcus posing with Will's loot:
Marcus was feeling a little jealous all week because we kept talking about Will's party and he wanted a party too. He got over it and particularly was happy to lead the way on the present opening. I have a feeling this will be the last year that Will will be happy to share the task of opening his presents with Marcus.
Will had a little help from his cousin Maria with blowing out his candles. Mostly he seemed sad when the flames were extinguished.
Greg's sister Bethany is celebrating her birthday today so we got her her own private cake with 22 candles.
Will ate his cake without as much mess as he did last year. Greg thought he probably was less messy with the cake than he is with any other food he eats. It appears that he might have some mess on his bib in this picture but actually that was just leftovers from lunch since we were too lazy to find a clean bib for him.
Don't believe me? Here he is eating his cake at his first birthday party:
Thank you everyone for coming and for the fabulous gifts! Will has been sharing his toys nicely with Marcus and last night they were loving every one of them!
